1987 Liberal Assembly

The debate at the Liberal Party assembly focused on merger with the SDP. There was no formal motion but the views expressed were supposed to form the basis for Lord Tordorf’s resolution to be put forward on
Thursday.  They discussed the lessons of the election, attacked David Owen and went onto to discuss the merger.  Though most of the speakers supported the merger, they seemed to oppose Robert Maclennan’s condition that major issues of policy must be discussed before a merger.
